Which Plant is Proven to Neutralize Stress?

6014973_sStress on the body, whether external or internal,  can lead to some serious health issues.

One of those effects is that stress often times leads to oxidative damage in the body.

And oxidative damage can produce many of the more common health ailments that people experience.

Some examples of diseases or conditions born from oxidative stress are.

  • Asthma
  • Lou Gehrig’s disease
  • Diabetes
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Stroke
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Huntington’s disease
  • Certain types of cancer
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Heart attack

And that’s just a handful of effects stress has on the body.

The way the body deals with stress is by using hormones to help it both cope and adapt to stressful situations.

The two primary hormones used to help fight stress are cortisol and adrenaline.

Elevated levels of either of these hormones are completely acceptable, for short periods of time.

But when they’re elevated for a long time you’ll find yourself unable to handle stress, and will likely begin to fall into poor health.

So what does this have to do with an herb you might ask?

Well there is a certain class of herbs known as adaptogens that help to fight stress. Specifically they work to support the adrenal system.

One of these superstars is Rhodiola Rosea.

Rhodiola has been used for centuries to help fight stress.

And in recent years scientists have begun to investigate its usefulness to fight stress, fatigue, as well as fending of free radicals that cause oxidative damage.

Rhodiola contains a chemical called salidroside. And salidroside is what makes Rhodiola a known anti-oxidant.

What scientists have found is that this antioxidant can actually help the body perform well, even when experiencing lower levels of oxygen intake.

Chinese scientists were able to observe two remarkable attributes of rhodiola rosea supplementation.

It was shown that the rhodiola species protect internal organs from low oxygen levels that occur at both high altitudes as well as during medical emergencies (like a heart attack or a stroke).

Scientists were able to conclude in another study that rhodiola prevents vascular remodeling in the lungs during exposure to low oxygen levels.

This means that during health episodes rhodiola might help the body adapt to the stress of not bringing enough oxygen in to the lungs and body.

And The Journal of Ethnopharmacology was able to show that rhodiola rosea was able to both slow the aging process of cells and extend their life span as well.

This means that rhodiola rosea has significant anti-aging properties. The study was able to show that the test subjects actually showed decelerated aging compared to the group that did not receive the herb.

The belief is that rhodiola works with adrenal system harmoniously and thereby increases the body’s resistance to stress.

One other way to help your body fight off stress is to enhance your immune system.

And one of the best supplements to take for immune heath is Ionic Silver.
